Older adults have a strong possibility of having at least one chronic health condition. Some of those ailments can impact their ability to take care of themselves or their home. Senior home care benefits your mom as she ages.
What is senior home care? It’s a group of services that support your mom’s companionship and personal care needs as she ages. It includes things like help with grooming and hygiene, housekeeping, meals, transportation, etc. Explore all of the benefits the services offer.
Personal Care
Does your mom find it hard to do some of her grooming and hygiene tasks? If she finds it hard to get in and out of the shower on her own, she can have a caregiver there for support. If she needs help with oral care, dressing, or toileting, it’s an option.
Light Housekeeping
Light housekeeping chores like dusting, vacuuming, and sweeping. Your mom’s caregiver can do them for her. If she wants to help, she has a caregiver to assist her with the things she cannot do independently.
Caregivers can wash dishes, take out the trash, and water plants. If your mom has a dishwasher, her caregiver will load it, set the cycle to wash and dry everything, and put them away. Counters and sinks are sanitized. Why is that important? Foodborne illnesses can be more difficult to fight off as you age. A clean, sanitized cooking surface is important.
Laundry
Once a week, your mom needs to wash her clothing, sheets, and towels. She finds it difficult to carry the laundry basket to the washing machine. It’s not easy to lift a mattress corner to properly fit the sheet.
Your mom’s caregiver can strip her bed, make it with clean sheets, and wash the laundry. When the laundry is done, her caregiver will dry it, iron anything in need of ironing, and put everything away.
Meal Preparation
When your mom cannot plan her meals or cook appropriate dinners, lunches, and breakfasts, her caregiver can cook for her. Her caregiver will talk to her about what she likes to eat and help her plan the weekly menu. If she needs groceries, her caregiver can help her with the shopping list and trip to the store.
Companionship is a big part of home care. Your mom has someone to talk to while she eats. She has a companion for daily walks, outings, and rainy days.
Transportation Services
Your mom shouldn’t drive due to declining eyesight or slower reaction times. Instead of risking her safety, she can have caregivers drive her to her appointments. If she wants to go out to a store or community center, her senior home care aide can bring her.
Senior home care services are easily arranged by filling out an online form or making a call. Go over your mom’s care needs, living situation, and services you feel she needs. You’ll enjoy having an advisor to help you explore services you may have overlooked and better understand pricing.
